Recognized three times for being the most child-friendly municipality in the region, Maitum in Mindanao’s Sarangani province easily became a hall of fame awardee for the said distinction last 2008. Maitum Mayor Elsie Lucille Perrett said that this would not have been possible if not for the people themselves who are dedicated to their work at improving the life of the community through the collective efforts of local government agencies like the Municipal Social Welfare and Development Office, the Municipal Health Office and the Department of Education District of Sarangani.

Undeterred by the continuous downpour of rain last June 6, Saturday, a total of 23 Coca-Cola employee volunteers from Coca-Cola Bottlers Philippines (CCBP) Head Office and Greater Manila Area (GMA) showed up for the Go Green! Go for the Real Thing tree-planting activity held at the San Francisco High School in Quezon City.

The municipality of San Jose, located on Carabao Island, the southernmost tip of the province of Romblon, has clear blue waters and powder-fine white sandy beaches. Despite this idyllic setting, 61.8% of island’s population – approximately 5,300 people - do not have access to clean, potable water. The only option for households to procure water for their daily needs is to travel by pumpboat at 5am from San Jose to the mainland municipality of Santa Fe, and return by the only boat available for the day, at 10am.

Through the rainforestation initiative of the environmental NGO Haribon Foundation a total of 172 Coca-Cola employees took part in the tree-planting activity organized by the Coca-Cola Foundation last January 31, 2009. This is in line with the Road to 2020 environmental conservation movement of Haribon, which aims to restore 1 million hectares of our rainforests using native tree species by year 2020.

When Coca-Cola first visited Pres. Roxas Elementary School in Giporlos, Eastern Samar in May, one can barely imagine a decent classroom out of the nipa hut-style makeshift structures in the school lot. Five months later, with the construction of a three-classroom building, Pres. Roxas Elementary School now deserves to be called a learning center.

Gawad Kalinga-Coke Barkada Tambayan Inauguration

It’s time to welcome the youth of Smokey Mountain as we open the doors of the Coke Barkada Tambayan in Gawad-Kalinga Paradise Heights Community, Tondo, Manila. The inauguration of the “tambayan” will be a day full of fun activities which include parlor games, group calisthenics and sports exhibition games. Open to all Coca-Cola employees. Total volunteer hours: 6 including travel time.

Go Green! Go for the Real Thing

June 6
Let’s “Go Green! Go for the Real Thing” as we celebrate World Environment Day together with the Boy Scouts of the Philippines. Eighteen plants all over the country will be simultaneously planting trees on June 6 as we aim to place in the ground a total of 10,000 seedlings in all. Open to all Coca-Cola employees. Total volunteer hours: 6 including travel time.
